Mermaiding at Northport's Book Fair

Pirates, Books, and a Mermaid!

As you may know, I had the pleasure of making my first dry-land public appearance as a mermaid yesterday evening. I attended a pirate themed book fair at a small school in Northern Michigan where I took pictures with those who stopped by and handed out treasures to those who came up to say "hello." I was very nervous about going to my first event, but in the end I had nothing but a wonderful time. The library of the school was filled with good books, smiling faces and lots of sparkly sea shells. Last night's event was very magical and I cannot wait to attend many, many more just like it.

In case you were unable to be present yesterday, here are some pictures from the event so that you can see some of what went on.

Ahoy There!

The theme of the event was pirates, so I felt right at home around the ship that was anchored in the library of the school. It looked really neat and made for a lovely perch for some of the books to sit on. However, the pirates were nowhere to be seen...

Even though the crew seemed to be missing in action, I did manage to find some of their loot! ;D It got safely tucked away in that pirate treasure chest from last week's video. After a consultation with my own pirate friend from overseas, I decided to give the chest a makeover with lots of paint, glitter, and pearls. I think it looked pretty spiffy! The treasures that it contained were certainly a hit with you younger crowd too.

Mermaid on Duty

I got to have a seat in the library near all of the books and refreshments. The wonderful women helping out at the book fair set up a pretty blue background for me to sit in front of. It worked out great for when people came up to get their pictures…

It worked out great for when people came up to get their pictures taken, and the color went nicely with the pirate theme of the event.

Mermaids like Reading too!

While I didn't have the chance to read it, I did bring one of my favorite books to the book fair in case I had some downtime. I wish I would have had the chance to browse through some of the stories at the event myself, but I was a bit busy. ;D

Back to the Lake!

When the event was all over, I got to go for a ride on my cart to get a better look at some of the wares. I was pretty tired though, and my jaw hurt from smiling so much, so it was a pretty quick ride! I had such a fantastic time and am very thankful that I had the chance to be a part of this school function. :)

I hope everyone who came to the book fair yesterday had as great a time as I did and that they managed to snag a few new books to read too. Thank you Northport Public School and staff for allowing me to attend this event, and thank you mom for being my lovely helper, photographer, and water-fetcher... and for reading me that cute book that you found! (It was called "Mother Bruce," and it was hilarious!)

This mermaid looks forward to spending a lot more time on land in the future. Maybe I'll see you around?

Thanks for checking out my blog! If you were at the event and would like a photo of you or your child sent to you, then please email me at Phantom@TheMagicCrafter.com and I can see if mom managed to snap one for you. (Don't worry! I won't be posting pictures of others without their prior consent.)

XOXO- Mermaid Phantom
